Frequently Asked Questions:

The FAQ's address most commonly asked questions regarding civil, structural, and technical services topics.

Engineering Question Answered
I have had past experiences with engineering companies that bid to be awarded a project, only to bill me thousands of dollars in extras later. This puts a strain on project resources. What can I do to avoid this?

Engineering Question Answered
I have a project that is very near to a development site that another Engineer has worked on. Is there any advantage to using that Engineer since he has worked in the area?

Engineering Question Answered
I want to get started on my project. What do I need to do to get Hoel Engineering involved?

Engineering Question Answered
What do I do when a building inspector tells me that I need B Schedules for my project?

Engineering Question Answered
I want to apply for a sewage disposal system permit for a difficult site. If I get an engineer, can I be sure to get permit approval?
Engineering Question Answered I have completed projects only to be told that I need an engineer to certify some of the work. Why does this happen? What can the Engineer do to help me when he hasn't designed or seen the work?

Engineering Question Answered
I am doing a subdivision in the Victoria area. Some Districts have Stormwater Bylaw requirements that seem unreasonable. Why do I have to spend many extra thousands of dollars per lot for construction and engineering when the rest of the area around me has no provision to improve water quality or discharge volumes?

Engineering Question Answered
With all the recent buzz over stormwater treatment, what is Hoel Engineering's opinion about the program?

Engineering Question Answered
I have been in construction for over 35 years. I have seen hundreds of buildings constructed, some cheap and nasty, and others with great care and diligence. Why is it that most of the newer buildings are rotting out and the "independent" "leaky condo" review board have laid blame on municiplaities, designers, and builders? The only things I have noticed that have changed in the last 35 years are the Building Code Practices. Why does no one seem to notice that?
